These are decent spikes with a nice weight and good shape. Stuck into suitable ground they keep the tripod very well placed which is exactly what you want in a spike!
They are however supplied with a single thin spanner, which is used to attach and detach the spikes from the tripod feet. Some other tripod brands have holes in the spikes to put any thin rod through to twist on and off, but here the single 1mm thick spanner is all you can use.
I actually bought this and the short spikes set at the same time, so ended up with two spanners total – a handy move as having one spare in case you drop the tool in the field seems essential to me. Why flat pack furniture that I’ll assemble only once and in the boundaries of my home comes with duplicate tool, but this designed for use out and about has no spare is baffling.
I’ve even taken the time to drill a hole into the handles so I could attach a clip to it to avoid it going missing. Again, this seems like an area Feisol themselves could have thought of.
Spikes: 4 stars – Do what they need to very well, just that fixing design is awkward
Accessory: 1 star – it works, it just feels easy to lose and there’s only one. It is well made though, based on how long it takes to drill a hole in!
